Local Friends: I am running an ACT Prep course starting Friday Sept 22. It will run for 6 weeks , leading up to the Oct 28 ACT test day.
If you know anyone with teens, feel free to pass this on. They can contact me for details.
The class will meet from 11-12:30, so this one is geared towards homeschoolers. (I'll be running classes in the future with afternoon/evening times that will work with public/private school students.)

International Red Panda Day


September 16, 12pm-3pm
Join the Zoo in celebrating International Red Panda Day 2017 on Saturday, September 16 from 12pm-3pm! Participate in red panda fact games to test your knowledge, create your own colorful masterpiece with a coloring sheet (download and print the coloring sheet here) to be displayed in the Predator Building, make your own red panda mask and learn how these unique animals survive in the wild by becoming a “red panda ranger.”  Don’t miss a red panda enrichment with a keeper chat at 1pm and a red panda training with a keeper chat at 2pm! Be a part of this important cause and help the Zoo raise awareness for red pandas. The red panda is a part of the Species Survival Plan® Program, a cooperative breeding and conservation program between the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and the Birmingham Zoo. Fun for the entire family, don’t miss out on this day full of activities!

World Rhino Day


September 22, 10am-2pm
You’re invited to join us for World Rhino Day on Friday, September 22 from 10am-2pm! Enjoy special keeper chats at 10:30am, 11:30am and 1:30pm as well as learning stations throughout Trails of Africa and a special visit from Matt Lindenberg, founder of Global Conservation Corps and the Rhino Man project. In addition, the Birmingham Chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers will be selling unique items and all proceeds will be donated to conservation! World Rhino Day activities are free for Zoo Members and included in general admission for guests.



La CelebraciĆ³n


September 23, 10am-3pm
Join the Zoo on September 23 to celebrate the culture of Birmingham’s growing Hispanic and Latino community at La CelebraciĆ³n presented by Abogados Centro Legal! Animals of Central and South America will be featured through bilingual keeper chats, animal encounters, arts & crafts, and other activities throughout the Zoo. Guests are invited to come and enjoy special enrichments for the animals, music, a dance lesson and more!  This event is in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, but also a welcoming event for all parts of the Birmingham community. Be sure to see Dora the Explorer and Diego from 10am-2pm at the Zoo! This rain or shine event is included in admission for Zoo guests and free to Zoo Members!

Pumpkins, Pancakes and Princesses


October 28, 8am-9am
Hear ye, hear ye! Adorn your crown or tiara and join us for a special meet and greet between your little prince and princess and our court of princesses at this royal breakfast! The first ever Pumpkins, Pancakes and Princesses will take place on Saturday, October 28 at 8am in Trails of Africa.
Tickets include a breakfast of fluffy pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, coffee, orange juice, photo opportunities with a multitude of princesses, Zoo admission, an unlimited ride wristband, a regal craft project, and a pumpkin souvenir. Special appearances will be made by some of your favorite costumed characters!  Each child will receive a gift upon arrival.
